The best Burgers in Budapest!
Magic Burger in Budapest is for me the best place to have a good, juicy burger the way you like it. It is your choice what bun you take, which meat you choose and which additional toppings you want to have on your burger. You can choose between the classical beef, but also choose the famous Grez cattle from Hungary, chicken, pork and even fish. The meat is very tasty and not these McDonalds type of patties. The buns range from a normal white flour bun over baguettes to crusty buns with sun dried tomatos. The toppings you can choose are endless starting from traditional cheese in all its types or bacon to onion rings, red cabbage or Jalapenos.
Since moving to the 11th district (before Magic Burger was located in the 3rd district – read more below) also the place became very nice, comfortable and a good place to sit with friends or family.
The staff is super friendly and very much into their work so that you always get a perfect burger served on your plate. By the way you should not forget about the superb fries / chips that are served in Magic Burger, especially with the Samurai sauce (a spicy mayonaise based dip).
As Magic Burger is very popular and located near some office buildings I do not recommend to go there during lunch hours, so from 11.30 to 13.30 you should avoid Magic Burger as the queue is extremely long and it takes ages until you get your food. It is better to go there for a late lunch or early dinner lets say between 15.00 and 19.00 and skip the waiting time.
Overall Magic Burger is the best burger I have eaten in Budapest for sure so if you fancy a nice burger this is your place to go!
Magic Burger before the move
In case you like Burgers and Hot Dogs you don’t need to search further for the best Burger in Budapest, Magic Burger is your destination to the ultimate American fast food experience. A bit of New York style stand feeling in the middle of the city. Seeing the place you would never guess that this quality of food comes from there but this is just another proof that the outside says nothing about the quality.
But from the beginning. Magic Burger is around quite long already, according to their blog they started in October 2010 so almost exactly 2 years ago. Located in a small caravan in front of the supermarket Profi the food is made out of a tiny kitchen. 3 hard working people in approximately 3sqm preparing burgers (beef pork or chicken), large burgers, hot dogs, large hot dogs, gyros/kebab, chips (french fries) and several other things. The main difference to other burger places in Budapest is that the meat and sauces are home made and not mass produced ingredients from the wholesaler.
As mentioned the location is in front of a supermarket in the North of Budapest, the road towards Szentendre after Árpád Bridge on Buda side, so you will unfortunately not find Magic Burger in downtown Budapest. In case your mouth is watered so much from this article you might want to take bus 34, 86, 106, 109, 118, 134 or 206 to Raktár utca bus station and walk the rest.
The menu of Magic Burger is large enough to not only satisfy burger lovers but you can also get gyros, hot dogs or several plates (e.g. a chicken breast with salad on the side) and of course several side dishes. Every burger comes with salad, cucumber, onions and sauces and can be topped up with extra toppings such as cheese, bacon, mushrooms, corn, jalapenos, cabbage and much more. Burgers are available as regular or large (óriasi) and you can order them with a single slice of meat or double. So for all stomach sizes you can create your very own burger. A highlight seems to be the “Monster Burger” weighing 2kg and the “Predator Burger” which weighs 5 kilograms. Yes, you heard right, 5kg of burger! Need a proof? Check the gallery below. Cost for that is 5.000 HUF (~18€) and 15.000 HUF (~53€) respectively. A regular burger starts at 550 HUF and goes up depending on how many toppings you choose, which size and how many slices of meat. I had a double beef burger with cheese and bacon which came 1.100 HUF.
There is one negative point overall concerning Magic Burger and that is the popularity which transfers to the queue and waiting time. In the lunch time you have to accept a queue plus preparation time of approximately 30 minutes to have the food in your hand. In winter time that is disturbing but not killing the business. Companies send out somebody to order for colleagues so that an order can take easily 10 minutes or more. However for the result the waiting time doesn’t matter and if you are not going there in the rush hours you will be fine holding a fantastic burger in your hand.
