Balaton Ring

Today morning in the news I heart that near Balaton a new race track will be built named Balaton Ring. Well next to Hungaroring near Budapest this would be the second big race track in Hungary. According to a motorcycle website the grand opening will be in Spetmeber 2009 hosting the MotoGP in Hungary. This would be a great event for MotoGP fanatic Hungarians since the last hosted MotoGP was back in 1992 which was one of only two races ever been in Hungary.

There are not many news out there yet telling more details about the ring itself. In a few Hungarian sources it is said that the Balaton Ring will be around 4 kilometer long and the top speed will be up to 300 kilometers per hour. It is also said to cost around 80 million Euro.

After Alba Airport near Székesfehérvár this is the next large out of Budapest construction in Hungary which more and more decentralizes the country. I doubt that the Balaton Ring can come close to Hungaroring since Hungaroring is hosting the popular Formula 1 since more than 20 years now.
