No decent Online Marketing Conference in Budapest

I am really missing a good SEO or Online Marketing conference in Budapest. Last year I have been to Keresőmarketing nap (Search engine day) over at T-Com’s headquater but to be honest it sucked. It was a real self promotion conference with one presentation after the other just talking about their companies, what they do and why they think they are the best. This year I have been to SES Hamburg which really was a blast. Not just the panels were superb but also the networking and the parties were absolutly amazing.

I have been curious and just checked the Website of the Keresőmarketing nap and still the 2007 version is online. So nothing moved and there will be no SEO or Online Marketing conference this year in Budapest?

In near future I will write a post about the search engine market in Hungary in this blog but I can tell you already that this market basically does not exist. At least not in the way it does in Germany, UK or the USA where SEO belongs to any companies marketing mix. It is a typical Hungarian attitude to not spend money on something where no money is visibly immediately coming back. Hungarian companies do not seam to realize that SEO is a long term investment. I had to fight a lot to get SEO done in the company I am working. I wonder if there are any SEO consultants who can live from the customers they have. By the way affiliate marketing isn’t very popular over here either.

So coming back to the wish for a conference I really would like to see a decent 2 day event with good speakers and panels, interesting presentations were you really have the chance to learn something and not self promotion shit. Why isn’t there a SES or SMX or PubCon CEE? It would be absolutly great to get bloggers, marketers, publishers, advertiser, SEOs together on a nice conference and a good drink afterwards with decent networking.

What do you think? Any conferences to recommend? Maybe Media Hungary? Let me know your opinion.

    May I tell you what happened? After spending so much time in Hungary you’ve finally learnt how to think the way we, Hungarians ironically think we live: how to criticize everything that surrounds you and how to make your life unhappy because of that. :-)
    I suggest you to think positive: how many opportunities exist then in Hungary for you as an SEO professional if nobody takes care of that…maybe your time can come then ;-)
    I am looking pretty much forward to reading your post about the Hungarian market to see what do you think as a good indicator of market development here.

    Sarcastix, I knew that before. Hungarians tend to be negative at first sight. “Nincs kedved…?” is a good example.

    Longhand, your trackback got through just I had to approve it. On Internet Hungary will be “some” discussions but I doubt the quality will be good. I don’t know the speakers but I can imagine it is a “general” discussion, not going into detail.

    Mosquito, please keep me informed about a possible keresőmarketingnap 2008.

    Anyways good to see that at least some people are interested in this topic and take it serious.

    “good SEO or Online Marketing conference ” - I don’t think this industry needs conference. A conference is perfect to have some coffee with unknown people. SEO works on the internet as I see. Blogs, forums etc.

    “have some coffee with unknown people” thats exactly what is missing. The networking is in my eyes quiet important. Of course the knowledge you can get from blogs and forums. Even though not everything. I have had beer with unknown people and got information which I didn’t see anywhere online.

    The market exists but not in the way it should I think. SEO is only important in a few companies.

    LOL. Who are you looking for in the list of guests in the conference? Rand Fishki, Danny Sullivan or Matt Cutts? Not these “SEO celebs” are the most important persons in Search Engine Marketing industry dude, believe me. ;)

    @longhand: Who talked about people like that? I was just claiming that there is no decent Hungarian Online Marketing Conference and have you been to Keresőmarketingnap? Just take Peresztegis or the iProspect presentation. Pure “use adwords and we are the best” self promotion presentations but nothing about SEO or online marketing. I do speak a bit Hungarian but unfortunately not enough to attend a in depth discussion

    @libretto: Belive me, I know the Hungarian market. I work in it since more than 3 years, “in general and in SEO”.

    @bocsa: Why mistaken? I think it is just interesting that once I write about SEO so many people comment, nothing more.
