It is probably the same in the Grand Market Hall in Budapest because you find typical Hungarian things such as paprika powder, goose liver or Pálinka. At least that is what the tourists should think about Hungary and their eating habits and I guess that is similar in any other touristic market in the world, they try to make you believe what is traditional. But of course Hungary is not only about paprika, Goulash and Salami even though that is what you mainly find in Grand Market Hall.

Anyways this is not about the tradition of Hungarian cooking and drinking rather a subjectiv opinion about the Grand Market Hall which is located at Fövám Tér right at the end of thenumber 1 touristic street in Budapest Váci utca. So there are mainly three types of shops in the Grand Market Hall which are vegetables (yes you will find a lot of paprika there), meat (yes, Salami) and souvenirs (ever heart about beautiful Hungarian table covers?). But to protect the Hungarian variety you just have to go to the cellar and you will find fish shops, an Asian shop with a shit load of spices, herbs, vegetables and all that kind of stuff. Additionally doenstairs you will find “Savanyúság” which is pickled vegetables such as cucumbers, cabbage, paprika, peppers and even baby melons.

If you go upstairs in the Grand Market Hall you have mainly bad quality textils such as T-Shirts with the parliament on it saying “I love Budapest” or the above mentioned table covered which maybe my grandmother would buy. But you also have restaurants and fast food places where you can get (bad quality) Hungarian food such as “Hurka” (sausage), Goulash Soup, “Székelykáposzta” (cabbage meat stew) and of course “Lángos”, “Palacsinta” and beer.

Many of the national holidays in Hungary are the same as in other countries such as Easter, New Years Eve or Christmas. Of course there are some differences but mostly they are similar. One thing here in Hungary that differs and was new to me since we don’t have this rule in Germany is that bank holidays have to be compensated on another day. Means if the public holiday is on a tuesday and you get the monday off it is very likely (most of the time even regulated by the law) that you have to work the following saturday and have only sunday off that weekend. A rule which I don’t really like but OK.

The All Saints day is a very much celebrated day in Hungary. Everybody goes to the cemetery to put flowers on the grave. On that day all shops are closed so the city is empty but the cemeteries are crowded.

Dentists in Hungary do not earn very much in Hungary as well as doctors in hospitals or for animals. Because of this low payment it came up that many dentists moved their workplace to lake “Neusiedler See / Ferto-tó” which is half in Austria and half in Hungary closed to Sopron. Many Austrians come here over the weekend or just for a day to get their medical treatment for their teeth by a dentist in Hungary because it is very cheap compared to Austria. The service and the output is the same but the price is much lower. But there are also dental clinics in Budapestwhich are well visited and often combined with a nice weekend.

Therefore a big number of dentists offer trips to the lake including sightseeing, wellness and relaxing. Next to the holiday you can have teeth whitening, plastic surgeries and many more medical services.

The currency of Hungary is the Hungarian Forint abbreviated as Ft and often denoted as HUF. The Forint waas introduce in 1946 is devided in 100 Filler. Since 1999 the Fillér does not exist anymore since it is too little money (1 Filler would be around 0,00004 Euros). The Hungarian currency Forint as we know it today was introduced on August 1st 1946. In 2008 even the 1 and 2 Forint coins got useless since all prices are rounded up or down to 5 Forint. In 2009 the Hungarian government also introduced the 200 Forint coin with the official statement that the production cost would be lower. In fact the real reason, thats what everybody thinks, is that Hungary wanted to make the next step to the Euro and have a coin which comes close to the 1 Euro coin. Not only in value but also optical.

The long term goal of Hungary is for sure to introduce the Euro as a currency of Hungary but when and if that happens is unclear. It is intended to introduce the Euro on January 1st 2012.

The Forint coins are available in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Forint coins.
The Forint bills are available in 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10.000, 20.000 Forint bills.

At the moment 1 Euro equals around 270 Hungarian Forint. 

If you plan to travel to Hungary there are usually two points to stay at or at least these are the most common. On the one hand you have Budapest, the city this entire site is about, or on the other hand you have the lake Balaton region which many people visit to relax or to party.

But of course Hungary has a lot more to see and it is worth to travel around in the country to find nice spots. For example a great place is Villany, a little village in the south, which is famous for their excellent wine cellars offering wine tasting from around this region. Other points to travel in Hungary are for sure other big cities like Pécs, Sopron, Györ or Miskolc which all have their own story.
Furthermore it is worth to travel ni Hungary to the countryside which has its own flair with. Here you will still find horse carriages, people living from farming and chicken running all over the place.
So you see that Hungary travel is not only about Budapest and Balaton but this country has far more to offer than you expect.

The girl from Hungary is always seen as a sex bomb, easy to catch and beautiful. They are beautiful but not easy to catch. It is very hard to get close to girl from Hungary but once you know her you will be loved and integrated in the family pretty soon.

The girl from Hungary is a bit different to the girl from Budapest, might sound strange but I think that it is everywhere the same that you cannot compare a city girl with a country side girl. Of course there are other major cities where the girls are similar to the ones in Budapest but if you go to the coutryside you will find a different type of Hungarian girls.

If you search for a hotel in Hungary or a hotel in Budapest the difference is not too big. To find a hotel in Hungary is not a difficult task but what about quality and service. It is well known that the service sector in Hungary is lacking. Of course if you go to a 4 star or above hotel in Hungary you can be sure to get decent service. But what about the classes below?

In general you can say that take away a star and you are where you expect to land. A three star hotel in Hungary is by far not the same as in France, Germany or in the UK. Nevertheless there are a lot of good quality hotels and I might be a bit wrong with my negative thinking about the service sector and the stars of hotels in Hungary but I can tell only from my own experience. Hotel i Budapest for example praise their stars and offer nothing but of course not all of them. So if you decide to stay in Hungary or Budapest for a while select your hotel well because this is where you sleep, this is what can make your vacation a horror trip. The hotels you can find on Budapestagent.com are good and have quality standards but of course I couldn’t tests them all. So some reviews are from me others from people around the world. The rest I leave open and give the responsibility to the agency. So choose your Hotel in Hungary well and you will enjoy your stay, no matter where in Hungary you are.
