A study conducted by STR Global about room rates, occupancy rate and revenue per available room in 31 European cities and countries has revealed that hotels in Budapest are among the cheapest in Europe. According to the study Hungary is placed in 28th place when it comes to the room rates which means that hotels are the 5th cheapest. Hungarian hotels have generated a total revenue of 74 billion HUF in the first 7 months of 2012 which is an increase of 13,4% year on year. Out of the 74bn HUF in total 39bn HUF ave been generated in Budapest which is an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period in 2011. A recent study by AVD (Automobilclub von Deutschland) about petrol prices in Europe has revealed that Hungarian petrol is slightly cheaper than the European average, at least when it comes to “Super”. A liter of Super gasoline is 5 Euro cents cheaper than the average in Europe (Europe 1,61 Euro, Hungary 1,56 Euro). The highest prices are in the Norway with a whooping 2,11 Euro per liter whereas the lowest prices you can find Romania with just 1,33 Euro. When it comes to Diesel Hungary is 6 Euro Cents more expensive than the European average. For a liter of Diesel you need to put 1,57 Euro on the table which is among the top 10 in Europe. New Car Sales in Hungary dropped 60%

A survey from June conducted by PwC has resulted in a 60% drop in car sales in 2011 compared to 2008. This year the expected new car sales number is 46.000 units which is no big change compared to the 2011 actual sales of 45.000 units. Main reason for this drop is of course the economical situation as well as the new car tax and car dealers are not expecting any improvement before 2014. These numbers go well with the 12 years average age of cars in Hungary which I have written about a few days ago. With the current new car registration rate it would take Hungary 60 years to replace all passenger cars. 31% of Hungarians are “very pessimistic” about their Retirement

A survey conducted on behalf of Aegon in nine countries has resulted in the finding that Hungarians have only plans for savings but no actual savings. Hungarians are worrying about their retirement fundings. A whooping 55% have serious doubts about their future pension benefits and 31% are very pessimistic about their retirement. “Only” 57% of Hungarians are aware that they need self responsibility to secure their retirement which in reverse means that almost half of the population is not even aware of that and will maybe run into trouble when being retired. Two other interesting numbers out of that report are that 83% of Hungarians believe that the value of the state pension will lose value while 78% believe that the retirement age will even increase. According to a survey by Accace Hungarian mothers have the longest paid maternity leave in CEE. The region CEE in this study includes next to Hungary the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the Ukraine. The longest a mother can go to maternity leave in Hungary is 3 years out of which for 168 days she is paid with 70% of her original salary which is paid by the state. After this period a mother is entitled approximately 100€ per month for the child. But the payment is not what I am looking at here, it is rather the time a mother can stay with the child after birth. Did you know that the average age of Hungarian cars is 12 years? According to a study conducted by Medián in 2008 nearly one-third of the cars in Hungary have been 5 years or younger. This number has changed dramatically across all age and social groups so that today less than 10% are 5 years old and younger. The average age went down to 12 years in average.
