One of the best Hungarian Restaurants in town!
The Csalánosi Csarda in Budapest, to be precise in Óbuda, is a traditional Hungarian restaurant with an extensive menu of good Hungarian food such as soups, meat dishes of all kinds, vegetarian food, pasta and of course some desserts as well. Located on the beautiful Fő tér of Óbuda it is in between block buildings but near the Árpád bridge but in the very cute old town of Óbuda.
The interior and atmosphere is really nice with a beautiful backyard which is perfect for summer days and also a little terrace in the front which you can see on the picture above. Inside as well as outside the Csalánosi Csarda is friendly and cozy and in the same time modern and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful, also with the massive menu of over 200 dishes and side-dishes, and also multilingual with English and German. You also get on request or if the waiters realize you speak a foreign language a English or German menu to make your choice.
Concerning the food in Csalánosi Csarda I must say that this is some of the best Hungarian food I had so far in Budapest and the portions are massive so make sure you get in there Hungary otherwise you will need to take have of your plate home which is no problem for the waiters to do that. The menu offers as main dishes everything from poultry of all kind (chicken, turkey, goose and duck) over pork meat to beef and all that in different variations. Breaded and deep fried, grilled, with stuffing or topping, all kinds of different sauces next to it so that everybody will find something he or she likes. Also you can get a small selection of pasta as well as vegetarian dishes and a great selection of salads, which are rather Hungarian type of salads. Overall everything I ever ate there was great but a bit too much. Also you should bring some time, especially if going there during lunch time, because some of the dishes take their time for sure. Csalánosi Csarda in Óbuda is not the cheapest restaurant you can choose however the value is absolutely fair.
A little gimmick they have is that when asking the bill you are asked to roll 3 dice and if you manage to get three times the 6 you will not pay anything and leave the restaurant with a full stomach and a full wallet.
