Coffee Cat Budapest

Coffee Cat in Budapest

Coffee Cat in Budapest

Coffee Cat is a small, cosy and friendly café in the centre of Budapest offering a superb selection and quality of coffee. If you want to get away from Starbucks and Costa Cafe quick drinks for a lot of money I can only recommend you to visit Coffee Cat because the coffee is really excellent, if not the best I had in Budapest. Located in a quiet area of Ó utca which is known for bars and pubs Coffee Cat is a very small but super friendly and cosy place to have your coffee in the morning or afternoon.

Above the counter you can finda  visualized selection of all the coffee types available ranging from a normal Espresso, the traditional cappuccino to Mexican Coffee and Iced Latte Macchiato so whatever you prefer you will find it in Coffee Cat. The coffee is according to the website 100% Columbian Arabica which reflects in the taste so you really have quality coffee in your hand. The prices in Coffee Cat Budapest are avarage, maybe a bit above but for the quality I am willing to pay some Forint more, so for an Espresso you pay 310 HUF, for a large Cafe Latte you get charged 510 HUF which still is probably 25% cheaper than in some trendy café. Also very popular in Coffee Cat are the croissants.

Though I was invited on a coffee by the owner I chose to give it a try without free coffee to check the staff as well and I, as well as the persons in front of me, were treated really friendly and helpful. The coffee is really made with love which takes its time but I guess that for a good coffee everybody is willing to wait. The interior in Coffee Cat is simple but absolutely sufficient and comfortable. Also as I can see the staff is treating its regular guests in a special way even dedicating them a picture and small description on their website naming it the “Cat Family”.

So if you enjoy a  good coffee at any time during Coffee Cats opening hours, weekdays 7.30 – 16.00 and Saturday 9.00 – 11.30, I strongly recommend you to have a look and try out one of their coffees because they are really fantastic and maybe you will get your section in the Cat Family soon as well.

Grandio Party Hostel Budapest

To tell you upfront, I haven’t tested the hostel itself I have just been to the bar of Grandio Party Hostel in Budapest. Grandio claims itself to be a party hostel and I can support this name since the hostel is very well connected to the bar attached to it. So think of a house in U-shape with room doors all around for the hostels guests and in the backyard there is a massive bar with places to sit, things to eat and of course lots of drinks. Grandio Party Hostel reminds me of one of the Budapest famous ruin bars like Instant, Szimpla Kert or Romkert partly refurbished but mainly left as it used to be which for a hostel is lets say takes a bit getting used to because you are sleeping there. But as I said I cant say anything about the hostel itself.

Villa Bagatelle

Villa Bagatelle Budapest

Villa Bagatelle Budapest

Good bread is something I was missing in Budapest, until now. Villa Bagatelle in Budapest is a bakery, café and home decoration shop in one place. It settled in a big, beautiful villa in the 12th district in Budapest, that why it took the name of Villa Bagatelle. The building is from 1929 when an owner of a pharmacy built a villa in Németvölgyi út for him and his family. Over the years the house has changed owners sometimes and now it became a family business including a superb bakery, the coffee place and a home decoration shop in the top floor. Beautifully renovated and with a very nice garden around Villa Bagatelle invites guests to have a coffee on the balcony or in the wonderful decorated inside. Also the place is very children friendly, equipped with many children seats and a nice corner to play for children of all ages.

Pezsegő Bar Budapest

Pezsegő Bár

Pezsegő Bár

Pezsegő Bar in Budapest is a little, fancy place in the city center surrounded by several other bars. The speciality of this bar is champagne and wine which is really excellent. It seems that this place is a little in bar for rich people and those who would like to be, a bit poshy and snobbish but I have to admit that I felt great there. You can also have nice dinners there served really excellent and well tasting as well. Also very good is the DJ who is playing lounge type of music rather for the background than for dancing but going well with the style of the bar and not too loud so you still can have a chat with your people.

To be honest there is not too much to write about Pezsegő Bar Budapest except from that it is a really nice and cosy place to have a drink with friends and have a chat. On fridays and saturdays it is recommended to reserve a table in advance since the seats in Pezsegő are limited. The entire bar is not too large so it might be that you have to stand in the crowd trying to reach the bar to have one of the fantastic champagnes or wines.

There are of course other drinks served as well like cocktails, beer and soft drinks. For food I recommend you to check out the website of Pezsegő Bar in Budapest. So if you want to have a cosy evening with friends I recommend to go to Pezsegő and if it is crowded there are other places areound to jump in for a drink.

California Coffee Company

California Coffee Company Budapest BudapestCalifornia Coffee Company is one of these Cafés just like Starbucks or Cafe Costa and since a while there are three stores in the center of Budapest, one outside and another one in Kecskemét. Yeah, another one. I do like coffee and the coffee in California Coffee company does taste great if you take one of the normal coffees. Too fancy are the white chocolate macchiato, caramel iced latte and what so ever. The California Coffee Company has opened up stores on Teréz Körút, Kálvin Tér and Szent István Tér as well as in the Premier Outlet Center close to Budapest. They offer free Wifi, next to the coffee they serve different sandwiches, cakes and some more stuff to eat as well as tea but also cold drinks of course.

Menta Terasz Budapest

Menta Terasz BudapestMenta Terasz in Budapest is a location where you can find everything from decent food, a very nice garden, a lounge and a club. The food they offer is this typical international style where you can get a bit from everywhere and some more from Hungary. The location of Menta Terasz is very nice and cosy even though it is situated on one of the roads with the highest traffic on Buda side, the Margit Körut.

Holdudvar Budapest

Since 2006 Holdudvar in Budapest is located on Margit sziget instead of the university. If you enter Margit sziget from Margit bridge you have to walk about 500m into the island and you will see the lights of Holdudvar which they became famous for (See picture below).
The place is quiet cool as it is an old house renovated very good in the middle of the island. Actually the place is the same except from the nice university wall surounding the place. In my eyes Holdudvar in Budapest is a little bit too large so it is hard that some kind of party feeling gets up. In the old Holdudvar you were standing almost on your neighbours feet so you had to do what the people around you did… dance.
By now Holdudvar also offers a lot of different kind of food so it almost became a restaurant during the day time and the early evening. Nevertheless it is still one of the coolest open air places in Budapest and definetly worth a visit.

Adress: Margit sziget, entrance Margit island

Gödör Klub Budapest

As I am writing this review about Gödör Klub I am actually sitting in here having a beer and enjoying the free WiFi to post this review. Gödör Klub in Budapest is located in the very heart of Budapest right on Déak Tér, actually under it. The indoor area is under a little lake which is near Déak Tér, the outdoor part is on the stairs bringing you down the club.

Bar Domby

Fine drinks and style!

Bar Domby is for sure one of the classiest bars in Budapest. It has the typical New York look and feel in black and gold interior with large, high mirrors hanging on the wall. The atmosphere is good and bar Domby seems to be crowded whenever you go there.

Bar & Café Minyon in Budapest

Style and flair

Minyon BudapestThe bar Minyon in Budapest is located in one of the upcoming areas of Budapest downtown, Király utca. In Király utca more and more bars, cafes and restaurants open up which all are styled well, serve good food and offer great cocktails. Bar Minyon is one of those. The interior reminds me of some lounge style straight from New York or London, modern a bit sterile but comfortable on every place.
The interesting thing about Bar Minyon is that on fridays and saturdays at 11 o’clock the bar turns into a club with dance floor, lound live music and a bar as long as the place itself. I haven’t been there for the club time but I heart that it is good.

Bar Galaxia

Do NOT go there

Recently I have read on Johnnyjet.com a review about Bar Galaxia in Budapest which made me curious about this bar. So I searched further on Google for Bar Galaxia and found tons of information and frustrated people who went there together with girls and got ripped off. The price was between 50.000 HUF and up to 260.000 HUF for a couple of drinks.

Open Air Clubs in Budapest

Holdudvar, Szimpla kert, Buddha Beach!

Budapest offers many open air clubs in summer. In the last couple years a lot of new clubs opened up in backyards, at the Danube or in old manufacturing factory sides.
Famous for Budapest are the “kert” which is a backyard in a house complex or just a place like a beer garden. Every year new places come up and offer beer, wine, food and just everything you need for a nice evening. The ambience is very chilly most of the time candles are burning and there are places to lie down or chill. The prices in kerts are quite cheap compared to regular clubs and discos. Beer is usually a round 1-1,5 Euro for 0,4 liters. Wine is also very cheap. Mixed drinks are a little bit more expensive but still affordable.
Some of those kerts turn into a club at night with music and dance floor and some stay a chilly place outside.
Also clubs like Buddha beach, Rio or Zöld pardon are open air place but give the opportunity to dance and are not as chilly as the kérts. If you come to Budapest in summertime you will automatically go to an Open Air place because everybody will go there.
Quiet popular these days are open air places like Romkert or West Balkan which have a special flair and give a good opportunity for a good party with girls and beers.

Cafe Farger

Free internet and fantastic coffee!

Cafe Farger in Budapest is a cosy little cafe near Szabadság tér which is close to the parliament and the US embassy, around the corner of Iguana. The style of Farger Cafe is a bit hard to explain, it reminds me of an American coffee house with fancy creations, different cakes and free internet, so quiet close to some Starbucks cafe.
