Wine festival, celebration and exhibitions!


  • February


  • In February the “Farsang” (Carnival) takes place where Hungarians celebrate the end of the winter. In the time of carnival many different parties take place and a lot of people from different nations celebrate they do in their country (e.g. the Jewish or German way). Also in February the “Filmszemle” takes place which is a show where different Hungarian movies are shown and awarded. It is a very interesting thing if you speak Hungarian.




  • March


  • In the second half of March the Budapest Spring Festival starts with concerts, Operas, Operettas and theatre shows. If you are interested in those cultural activities you should have a look in their program.

  • June


  • End of June the city celebrates the reunion of Buda, Pest and Obudá. On chain bridge there is a kind of water carnival and a in the city itself is a big street festival.
    Also in June a celebration takes place called the “Budapest Búcsú” which symbols the take off of the Russian soldiers in 1991. A lot of open air concerts and street balls are taking place (last weekend of June).

  • July


  • “BudaFest” with Opera and Ballet festival in the opera is in the city. Information telephone: 3324816
    Also many open air concerts with different kinds of music styles are in and around Budapest plus a open air stage at Margit island.

  • August


  • At August the 20th (St. Stephans) day the “Holy right hand” of King Stephan I is taken through the city in a big ceremony. The “Holy right hand” is kept in the Basilica. During that ceremony in castle district traditional handcrafts are shown and on Andrassy ut a big street festival is celebrated. At 9pm big fireworks are at the Danube shore and the people come to see it between chain bridge and Freedom Bridge.
    Also in August the Formula one, the Budapest Parade and the Sziget Festival are in the city. For further information on Formula one please check the section sports.

  • September


  • The Jewish summer festival is in the synagogue with concerts, movies, books, exhibitions and much more. Information telephone: 3430420
    The Budapest Wine Festival is a highlight in September. In district number 1 Hungarian wine producer present their wines and many bars and places to eat open. A lot of people come to have a wine or just to be under people and talk. If you are here in September this event is a must. Information telephone: 3551847

  • October


  • The Art weeks open their gates. From dance, theatre over movies, photos to computer arts are shown to the people which is really interesting.

  • December


  • A lot of Christmas markets in Budapest open up in December. At Vörösmarty ter is the biggest but also on Liszt Ferenc ter, Jokai ter and many more squares have their Christmas markets.
