The Gellért Hill in Budapest is know for the incredible view over Budapest which makes it a must-see attraction. Set on the plateau is the Citadella one of the monuments of freedom in Hungary and also a very popular tourist destination as well as entertainment and leisure place for many locals. From the top you have one of the best views over Budapest just like from the Castle District and the Fisherman’s Bastion.
On half way up to the hill you can find the statue of Bishop Gellért which is best visible from Erzsébet híd (Elizabeth Bridge) but you can also see it on your way up if you decide to walk up instead of taking a bus, taxi or any other wheeled vehicle. The statue was built in 1904 in exactly that place where the Gellért presumably was thrown to death.
From the Citadella on top of Gellért Hill you can see Buda as well as Pest (from Fisherman’s Bastion you mainly see Pest) as well as 8 bridges crossing the Danube including the beautiful Chain Bridge which is lightened up at night and looks like a golden bridge connecting the 2 parts of the city.
On the foot of Gellért Hill is the famous Hotel Gellért as well as the very popular Gellért Bath.
The hotel itself is a very well frequented tourist attraction and very often booked for weddings as the districts local office is located not far away. If you would like to book your room in Hotel Gellért please click here.
Also the Gellért Bath is a very popular destination for visitors of Budapest because it belongs to the top baths in Budapest and is historical worth seeing as well, so it has not only a wellness factor.
