Budapest offers many open air clubs in summer. In the last couple years a lot of new clubs opened up in backyards, at the Danube or in old manufacturing factory sides.
Famous for Budapest are the “kert” which is a backyard in a house complex or just a place like a beer garden. Every year new places come up and offer beer, wine, food and just everything you need for a nice evening. The ambience is very chilly most of the time candles are burning and there are places to lie down or chill. The prices in kerts are quite cheap compared to regular clubs and discos. Beer is usually a round 1-1,5 Euro for 0,4 liters. Wine is also very cheap. Mixed drinks are a little bit more expensive but still affordable.
Some of those kerts turn into a club at night with music and dance floor and some stay a chilly place outside.
Also clubs like Buddha beach, Rio or Zöld pardon are open air place but give the opportunity to dance and are not as chilly as the kérts. If you come to Budapest in summertime you will automatically go to an Open Air place because everybody will go there.
Quiet popular these days are open air places like Romkert or West Balkan which have a special flair and give a good opportunity for a good party with girls and beers.

Kobuci Kert

Kobuci Kert in Budapest is a bar with food and drinks as well as a event location for smaller concerts and performances. It is a fairly simple outdoor place like a beergarden in Óbuda (northern Budapest) offering the usual things to drink and eat for one exception which is the Kobuci sandwich. Kobuci is an assembled word coming from Ko for Kolbász (Hungarian fried sausage) and Buci which is the dough. The Kobuci Sandwich On the dough there is a base of spiced sour cream (tejföl, very popular in Hungary) topped with home made, fried, ground sausage pieces and some vegetables such as tomato slices and diced cucumber. Quite simple but really tasty, this is how it looks like. The Kobuci Kert is originated back in 2005 during the biggest all art festival in Hungary, the Valley of arts. Since then Kobuci is a name and with the start of the Kobuci Kert in summer 2009 it is a permanent place in Óbuda, the Northern part of Budapest on Fő…

Szimpla Budapest

Margaret Island – The Green Lung of Budapest

In the heart of Budapest is the breathe taking Margaret Island which is a definite must see for anyone visiting Hungary. The Island is found in the middle of the Danube river and is full of many family friendly recreational activities. Margaret Island has numerous landmarks with historical significance and even has two landmarks which are UNESCO protected sites. The Landmarks include a small Japanese Garden, the Centennial Memorial of 1973, The Music Well, The Music Fountain, the octagonal Water Tower of 57 m and even a small zoo. Zöld Pardon Budapest

Zöld Pardon is an open air place on the Buda side of Budapest. It is located directly next to the bridge or actually within the range of the bridge because you can turn left if you come from Pest side to reach the upper Danube road and in this circle is Zöld Pardon. By the way, on the other side of the bridge is the open air club Cafe del Rio. In Zöld Pardon in summer there are a lot of live concerts of Hungarian bands in the evening. The audience of Zöld Pardon is very different. You can see very young people around 16 or old people in the 40’s or even 50’s. The place is very big and offers to places to party plus several bars aside. The one dance floor is usually used for Hip Hop music and the second, the bigger one, is for the live concerts or Pop and chart music. In summer Zöld Pardon is a good place to go because you are on…

Kopaszi Gát Budapest

Kopaszi Gát in Budapest is a very nice recreation area on Buda side richt at Lágymányosi híd. The half island was built up after the flood in 1838 as a protection against flood for the near by industrial buildings and factories. Already some years ago there were some clubs and bars located which than moved on to other places. For some years this half island was unused even though it was a really nice spot in Budapest. Right next to the Danube, fairly calm and with a little bay between the island and the industrial area this was a perfect place to be rebuilt and give it some attractions. So it came that a private developing cooperation from Portugal decided in 2003 to redevelop the 15 hectare half island to make it a inner city relocation area and they did a fantastic job. The park on Kopaszi Gát is wonderful to take a walk, you have a beach to lay on, a track to go for running, restaurants and bars,…

Holdudvar Budapest

Holdudvar in Budapest is in my opinion one of the best locations to go out for a drink and to party. It is the most complete club and has an incredible location. Since 2006 Holdudvar in Budapest is located on Margit Sziget (further down you’ll find some info about the former location), coming down from Margaret Bridge you walk some 100m, pass the music fountain and you are standing in front of an old, refurbished casino surrounded by trees. The entrance for Holdudvar is free so you just get in to the bar, restaurant, club and whatever else you can find there. You enter the place to the large outside area which is mainly the restaurant with hundreds of tables and some bars in the middle and a stage on the right hand side for live music, concerts and much more. On the left hand side you find the building with a massive bar so that everybody gets a drink as fast as possible. Behind the bar there is the…

Romkert Budapest

Romkert (Hungrian for ruin garden), or as it is originally called Rudas Romkert, is one of the most popular clubs in Budapest at least during the warm summer months. The fully outside ruin club sits on the foot of Gellért Hill directly at Elisabeth Bridge and since years a very well frequented club. The audience is slightly snobbish however over the past years it has become a much more main stream and therefore attracts “normal” people as well. The special thing about Romkert is probably the location where you can see up to Gellért Hill, right next to the Danube and next door to the historical Rudas thermal bath. The music in Romkert is, as the audience has become, rather main stream and full of chart hits so you will for sure hear the current top 10 chart hits here. Late at night Romkert is absolutely packed it is hard to find your space at the bar or on the dance floor. There is no dress code to get in the…

Szimpla Kert Budapest

Szimpla Kert in Budapest is the raw-model of a ruin pub and was probably one of the first of its kind. Over the years Szimpla became increasingly popular, several years ago it was a trendy place for students and alternative people, nowadays it has a place in every Budapest guide as a must-see attraction. On weekends it is packed with tourists, stags and other foreigners but it still has the old ruin flair it had from the beginning. The Szimpla kert (or Szimpla kertmozi, meaning garden cinema, as it is called originally) is a mixture of an open air bar, a club and a cinema. At least in former times alternative and underground movies have been shown here, nowadays the space is needed for more chairs and space to sit. From the street you almost miss the entrance because it looks like a regular door entrance (watch out for a small yellow sign) but inside it is amazing. You enter the Szimpla kert and stand in front of a massive…
